Inspired by hip hop, psychedelic rock, electronica and synth pop, a new style of electronic music has been emerging in the US and UK over the past few years. Through a melange warm synthesizer melodies, blunted beats and live instrumentation, this emerging breed of producers has captured the hearts and minds of millions.
24 year old Manchester beatsmith Star Slinger has shot to worldwide recognition in a startlingly short amount of time, having already been named by The Guardian as “best new act of the year by miles”. He counts the likes of DIPLO, Jamie XX, Donald Glover and Benji B amongst the fans of his melodic, chopped up beats, with pitched up soul vocals sliced around complex drum machine patterns and swathes of vintage synths. oOoOO features productions that blend elements of mainstream pop, italo disco, southern rap, the Eastern European mystical traditions, and often feature female vocalists. Besides original producsion, oOoOO has produced numerous remixes for The Big Pink, HIM, Salem, and Marina and the Diamonds, as well as unofficial versions of Lady Gaga and Nadia Oh tunes.
Jordan Koplowitz and Reed Juenger make up Beat Connection and together they summon up the mundane things in life, the things that we pretend don’t matter but the stuff that keeps everyone going; the first sunny day, getting the girl, slacking off, partying… things that are overly romanticized in movies. Mux Mool’s homespun electro hip-hop is the product of an introverted mind, an extroverted imagination, and a bottomless cultural appetite. Local mainstay Eddie starts things off.
For fans of Boards of Canada, Four Tet, Gold Panda and Washed Out.
