I have been working with Decibel since the second day of the first year of the festival. In that time I’ve seen a lot of really tremendous performances. Looking back, I can barely count the number of shows that surprised me with their energy, quality and vibe. To some degree, I know better than to try to pick favorites before the festival starts. But since I got into electronic music from the Experimental side of things, and I make my own ambient/experimental music, I tend to anticipate the Optical showcases and the more ‘out’ acts the most.

Wednesday
Decibel Opening Party at Rebar. I’ve been an Atom(tm) fan since he was Atom Heart and have had the privilege of working with him on more than a few occasions. Jon McMillion has absolutely astounded me with his world class talent from right here in the Seattle area.

Thursday
Being a video systems designer myself, and a long time Amon Tobin fan, I have to experience ISAM Live at the Paramount.

Friday
Optical 1: Mountains, Simon Scott (doing a special live presentation) and Ulrich Schnauss provide the perfect balance of “inside” and “outside” music!

Saturday
Optical 2: Being an Oval fan since the 90′s and having worked with 10 channel 360 degree immersive versions of Reich Krakow’s work in the past, I can barely wait for this one!

Sunday
dB in Dub Finale: Gotta love dub. NW locals Systemwide start it off. Gaudi accelerates. A rare treat of seeing Twilight Dub Circus live follows. Dub master Mad Professor finishes the evening out. What more could a guy who got his first dub record from his dad in 1978 possibly ask for?
