As content editor, I have read every single word of this year’s festival booklet at least 5 times over and I have to say, the more I read it the more impressed I am with the breadth and depth of this year’s program. So much new music that at first I wasn’t sure what I’d be interested in, but now I know – there’s actually too much to see and almost all of it brand new to me. Picking just 1 per night is very tough so I’ll focus on the new music I hope to see rather than those I’ve seen before and would love to enjoy again. Seriously… this is one tough year!

DECIBEL PRESENTS TORO Y MOI at The Crocodile
The description of the music at this show sounds crazy and I want to witness the madness in person. It’s the only showcase with this kind of lineup, featuring strange psychedelic electro rock. It’s also not a show I’d normally go see, but with the pass this my chance to experience new live music, which is what I love most about Decibel.

Thursday
RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY NIGHT @ Neumos
SWEATBOX SHOWCASE @ The Woods
I was fortunate enough to see Amon Tobin’s ISAM LIVE performance at his world premiere this May at MUTEK Festival. It was absolutely incredible and I *HIGHLY* recommend anyone who hasn’t seen it to go. Rather than indulge in a double dose of the mind blowing eye-candy that is ISAM, I will be splitting my time between 2 other performances. Sweatbox is a production crew that repeatedly throw some of the best parties in Seattle and I’d love to get down with them during Decibel. Who hasn’t heard a Bonobo song they loved? Bonobo has been a long time favorite producer and I can’t wait to hear what he does as a DJ.

Friday
BLURRING THE LINES @ Neumos
Not only are my favorite people performing for the first time for Decibel Festival (CYANWAVE!!), I get to see Martyn perform a live set! I danced non-stop during his afterhours set 2 years ago for Decibel (ironically it was the same night as Cyanwave’s world debut live set). The fact that it’s a live set makes it all the more exciting to see! I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews of Martin Buttrich, Max Cooper and Egyptrixx.

Saturday
OPTICAL 2 : GRAINS OF SOUND @ Nordstrom Recital Hall
One of the reasons why I love dB is the chance to see live electronic music that isn’t all about “the club”. Electronic music isn’t about just getting your groove on, it can be as ethereal, bombastic or transcendent as any orchestra or band. Quality sound in an amazing venue, a perfect setting for this showcase that is a rare treat.

Sunday
BIT POP @ The Triple Door
Since first going to a Decibel event at The Triple Door to see Matmos, I have made it my mission to go to every show Decibel presents at this very special venue. It’s pure class that makes me feel like Frank Sinatra is supposed to walk through the door any minute and the food is divine. An elegant way to end a marathon of music. This is always a highlight for me. I’ve also love DNTL/James Figurine (not to mention his work as half of The Postal Service!). I’m also very excited to see the world debut of Orcas having seen Rafael and Benoit Pioulard perform solo and loving both of their distinct musical style. A perfect way to end an epic weekend of new music.
