My picks for Decibel Festival 2011!
Wednesday
I’ll definitely start my night out at Neumos since I keep hearing great things about Shigeto and araabMUZIK. As tempting as it is to stick around for DJ Krush, I’ve gotta get down to Re-Bar to close out the night with Zomby. He’s an elusive character who’s put out some seriously idiosyncratic tunes over the last few years that meld Rave, Dubstep, Garage, Techno, and who knows what else… but in a way that works!
Thursday
I saw the Amon Tobin ISAM show at MUTEK 2011. It’s worth the hype. Be there.
For me though, I may give up my spot to someone who hasn’t yet had the pleasure. I’m excited to check out the funky sounds of Quantic then bounce down to the icy electro pop of Ladytron as I’ve not seen either of them.
Friday
Given the lack of more subdued and introspective experimental music the rest of the year, I’m always particularly excited about the Optical and Triple Door showcases. This year is especially stacked with talent. Mountains is an all time favorite of mine and gets the highest recommendation.
After the sun sets, I gotta go with the live, analog, classic house sounds of Miracles Club. To close out the night, Martyn never disappoints!
Saturday
Disco Brunch!
I’ve been an I:Cube fan for years and I’m excited to get a chance to finally check him out both solo and with Chateau Flight. Pair that with Deniz Kurtel, Mike Huckaby, and honorary Seattleite Derek Plaslaiko… whoa. The Deep Foundations show at Neumos is not to miss.
Sunday
As a Decibel fan and attendee since day 1, getting the honor to play The Slow Boat as part of Slowpøke is a big highlight. The fact that the boat has my favorite lineup of the festival doesn’t hurt either!
