When Erik Satie spoke of 'musical furnishings' in the late 19th century to describe his miniatures for piano he couldn't have anticipated nearly a century later Brian Eno would find inspiration in his work when coining the term "Ambient" to describe his seminal 1978 album "Music For Airports". Like Satie, Eno sought to define his minimalist, atmospheric music away from what he referred to as "the products of the various purveyors of canned music" or what Satie viewed in his time as the opulence of the classical music world.
Decibel is once again proud to present an Ambient Showcase complimentary in equal measure to these two historic musical adventurers. Previous Ambient Showcases have hosted rapturous performances by the likes of Fennesz, Murcof, Dead Texan, Biosphere and composers Harold Budd & Robin Guthrie. This year thematically features work at the vibrant intersection of acoustic, electric and electronic instrumentation in conjuring works of sublime beauty, atmosphere, texture and sonic abstraction, with the focus on live instrumentation and performance. The four artists in this years showcase all bring their own distinct variations on neo-classical, cinematic soundtrack and evocative instrumental music including.
