Surprisingly, Flying Lotus' most famous work is that for which he's given the least credit, as he's one of the anonymous producers for the interstitials that appear on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Rather than the predictable sound one would expect from a "hip hop" producer, Flying Lotus produces beat storms, with off-kilter, hard-hitting percussion paired with gauzy ambient atmospherics. The resulting sound is as much informed by Aphex Twin as it is J Dilla or Madlib. After releasing his debut album, 1983, on Plug Research, he signed to Warp Records in 2007, releasing the more experimental Reset EP in advance of the critically-acclaimed album Los Angeles. Recently, Flying Lotus has won over fans worldwide with his live sets, with him animatedly tapping out his intricate productions on his sampler, providing an image as captivating to watch as it is to hear.
