It would be a disservice to The Bug (Kevin Martin) to deem his latest album, London Zoo, just a dubstep album. Instead, it’s a progression for Martin, whose collaborations with players as varied as Justin Broadrick of Godflesh/Jesu, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine and noise jazz outfit 16-17 reveal him as an artist that’s impossible to categorize, resulting in an album that is as much a testament to London’s soundsystem culture (dancehall, grime) as it is to noise and hip-hop. Its style is a dense mash of influences that innovates upon them while paying homage. The Bug will be performing with the Warrior Queen Sunday night as part of the "2008 Decibel Festival Finale". Not to miss.
