Jeff Greinke doesn’t make music—he sculpts soundscapes that are as seductive as they are disturbing, rich in intrigue and evocative of an impressionist ethos. Desolate winds blow through his multi-layered compositions and infuse them with a tangible feeling of suspense so thick that it borders on terror. You don’t so much listen to his music as you absorb it through your skin, through the goose bumps on the back of your neck. Currently based in Tucson, Arizona, this pioneer of dark ambience has composed for film, video, dance, theatre, radio, and art installations. Greinke’s unusual approach to electronica has left a trail of musical sculptures in his wake, a garden that drips with a somber mood and is inhabited by evocative entendres. His efforts result in ambience for the people; horizons of sound that linger on long after the mysterious music has drifted back into the night.
