Few labels have contributed more to the progression of forward thinking electronic dance music than Planet Mu. Founded in 1995 by UK producer Mike Paradians (aka μ-Ziq), Planet Mu started out as an IDM and Breakcore label known for pushing the boundaries through groundbreaking albums by Venetian Snares, The Flashbulb, Capitol K, Jega, Luke Vibert and μ-Ziq himself. In recent years, Planet Mu has been blazing new territory in the realm of modern bass music (Dubstep, Future Garage, Glitch, UK Funky). Always ahead of the curve, Planet Mu’s current roster is a who’s who of critically acclaimed bass music artists, including Benga, Hatcha, Boxcutter, Distance, Pinch, Vex’d, Starkey, Ikonika, Mary Anne Hobbs, FaltyDL, Ital Tek and Milanese. For this showcase Decibel will be hosting three of Planet Mu’s brightest young stars (Starkey, Ikonika and FaltyDL).

Starkey’s landmark 2010 release Ear Drums and Black Holes takes an incredibly open-ended vision of dubstep and runs with it. A sci-fi journey, with a street bass edge, Starkey might very well have constructed the most original electronic music album of the year.

No dubstep/bass music producer has had more of an impact this year than London’s Ikonika. Not only did she have the honor of releasing her debut full-length Contact, Want, Love, Have on Hyperdub (one of only four albums ever released on the imprint), but she’s also released three EPs (Planet Mu and Hyperdub) and remixed nearly a dozen artists, including Caribou, Jahcoozi, Ital Tek, Illem Sphere and Brown Acid. Not a bad year.

FaltyDL is at the forefront of the future garage movement, which is a modern take on the UK Garage sound popularized in the 90s. A mixture of deep house, break beat and dubstep, FaltyDL’s music incorporates a wide array of influences, while striking a balance that is entirely unique.

Seattle based DJ and producer Ill Cosby will be kicking things off with a expert selection of modern bass tunes sure to set the mood.
