Peter Rand’s obsession with film and video began with a super-8 camera, a cassette four-track, and a movie about washing dishes. Since then, he’s completed countless short videos, documentaries, and media presentations. In early 2004, he got his hands on a video mixer and a set of projectors and started VJing in and around Washington state. Now, a professional VJ and video geek, Peter focus’ on bringing a poignant narrative to his work in new media.
In general, Peter’s art can be considered eclectic, both in concept and design. Some pieces are rooted in traditional cinematic techniques, while others incorporate the usage of physically interactive spaces and apparatus. Some are meant to promote social awareness, and some are meant for his mother. He has performed alongside artists like Moby and Tiesto and has assisted in building contemporary art installations in Rome. He has taught art and media to under-served populations in Albuquerque, and made pizzas in Wyoming. He makes art to further define his own experiences and perspectives as a creative individual, but mostly he does it to do it.
