Aside from being a talented DJ and producer (not to mention Decibel’s Educational Director for the past 3 years), Kris Moon has made massive contributions to Seattle’s electronic music scene. For over two years, he ran the Seattle Live User Group, bringing heads together to discuss Ableton Live techniques and tricks every month. To encourage interaction among local techno fans, he started up the Division mailing list, which is still going strong. He’s also the mastermind behind the national Laptop Battle— the annual championships, featuring the best laptop musicians in the country which are held here in Seattle. DJing since 1993, Kris has also been part of legendary local parties like Robo.trash at the Baltic Room. He digs into a wide range of styles, whether it’s deep techno, dub, jungle, or hip-hop. His live sets combine expert programming, on-the-fly manipulation, and dark, melodic grooves.
