One of Mexico’s most highly-regarded electronic music producers, Fax (Rubén Tamayo) is one of the founders of the label Static Discos, where he’s released most of his output. While known best for his minimal techno, his most recent albums, 2006’s Primario and 2008’s Yo Recuerdo, have drifted into dreamier downtempo territory, warming up the minimal template with dub and ambient textures. Despite this shift to slower tempos and calmer moods, the Dance Mix of “Cuarto Para Tres” (Yo Recuerdo’s closing track) shows that he hasn’t lost grasp of what works for the dance floor.
