Deru creates the sound of isolation, and instead of being sparse, his version of isolation is dense, with moments that asymptotically approach silence but never arrive due to the enveloping layers of hiss, melancholic beats, and scattered tones. Deru’s first album was released in 2003 on Neo-Ouija, followed by his last album, Trying to Remember, on Merck. Debuting with an appearance on Click & Cuts 3, he has had subsequent appearances on Ghostly’s Idol Tryouts Two and Lusine’s Podgelism, where he’s continued to combine an emotional palette with cerebral sound design. Deru will be co-healining Thursday night's label showcase at the Baltic Room.
