Eluvium

Another student from the school of Brian Eno, Portland-based ambient artist Eluvium has managed to tour with rather interesting company: post-rock band Explosions in the Sky, Post-metal outfit Jesu, drone metal band Sunn O))). No doubt a result of his guitar-centric aural tapestries. His elegant noise layers guitars and pianos and combines elements of shoegaze, experimental and minimalist composition. With a depth ranging from fragile to glacial, he takes dense layers of guitars and pianos and builds them into an awe-inspiring fortress around himself. Eluvium is a freakishly beautiful affair. If it was ever possible for a warm gust of wind to send chills through every bone in your body, then Eluvium is that warm wind.

His newest work, Miniatures, is his first under his own name, Matthew Robert Cooper, and branches away from the guitars to include solo piano, orchestral rumbling and organ.

Catch Eluvium perform live at our Ambient Showcase, Sunday, September 28 at the Triple Door.
