Breakcore? Dubstep? Tech-house? People love to toss around genre names, but they can be just as contentious as they are illuminating, and they come and go with astonishing speed.

The panel will consider to what extent genre has played a role in the development of the sound of electronic music, and whether and why it’s important to think about genre in 2011 as artists and listeners. Plenty of musical examples will be offered along the way,
