Over the past four years, no other events have inspired as much excitement, comrodery and dancing as the dB Afterhours. Last year’s afterhours sets by Move D, Martyn, Bruno Pronsato, Holger Zilske and Voodeux where continually sited as highlights by Decibel Festival regulars. This year we’re following up a successful formula with two nights of world class deep house and tech house, both happening at a downtown warehouse venue equiped with the finest sound the festival has to offer (KV2 Audio courtesy of Starborne Productions).
Kicking things off for Saturday’s “Late Night Soul Kitchen” afterhours will be Seattle’s own Dave Pezzner, who acclaimed releases on OM and Freerange have helped re-write the book on contemporary deep house. Since debuting his live set at the 2008 Decibel Festival “Earplugs” Afterhours, Pezzner has gone on to become one of the most respected deep house producers and performers in the world.
Next up, the NW debut of Boston’s Soul Clap, who’s podcasts, releases and DJ sets have made the duo one of the most talked about underground dance artists of 2010. Much like New York’s Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap have been digging up classic disco, Italo, funk and soul in their quest for the never ending dance party. Their massively popular releases on Wolf + Lamb Music, AirDrop, Crosstown Rebels and Double Standard have thrust the young duo into the lime light, right where they belong.
Closing out the 2010 dB Afthours will be none other than Detroit’s Theo Parrish. One of the godfathers of deep house and the most prominent figure to come out of Detroit’s house movement, Theo Parrish is a legend amoungst house music enthusiasts. A prolific producer, Theo has released over 30 records under his own name going back to 1995. In addition, Theo’s momental work with Kenny Dixon Jr. (aka Moodymann), Marcellus Pittman and Rick Wilhite under the moiker “Three Chairs” is widely regarded as some of the best house music recordings to date. In addition, Theo has 3 of the top 10 downloaded DJ sets on the Red Bull Music Academy Radio, which features over 800 sets from the worlds top electronic music artists.
