For over a decade, Ghostly International (and its dance floor-centric little sibling, Spectral Sound) has done much to erode the outdated constraints of musical genre, releasing album after album of eclectic, creative work from artists occupying the ever-dissolving boundaries between music, technology, and visual art. Each year, Decibel has hosted a Ghostly International Label Showcase to celebrate the label and it’s talented roster of artists. This year we’re hosting three of the label’s most exciting artists, Mux Mool, Gold Panda and Seattle’s own Lusine. As a special treat German avant-techno artist Pantha Du Prince will be making his Seattle debut.
Mux Mool’s unique take on hip hop has drawn caparisons to Flying Lotus, J Dilla and Prefuse 73. His 2010 full-length debut, ‘Skulltaste’, is the culmination of years of toil and experimentation, gathering his myriad talents and obsessions into one gloriously sprawling document.
Gold Panda’s Asian-influenced downtempo experiments have received continued praise from tastemakers Pitchfork and Resident Advisor. The UK producers’ sound is a gorgeous wash of world music samples, lo-fi beats and melodic textures that channel artists like Boards of Canada and Four Tet.
Lusine’s most recent release ‘A Certain Distance’ was one of the best reviewed electronic music albums of 2009. The combination of dream-pop vocals and his signature sound design have brought the Lusine much acclaim.
Pantha Du Prince’s ‘Black Noise’ is an early candidate for 2010 album of the year. Much like Lusine, PdP effortlessly fuses together lush pop melodies and synthesized percussion to create something that works both on the dance floor and in headphones. In addition to producing his own work, PdP has recently done remixes for Trentemoller, Bloc Party, Depeche Mode, Cold Cave, The Long Blondes and Animal Collective as well as collaborating with Animal Collective front man Panda Bear.
