…SAMIYAM (LA, Brainfeeder)

http://www.myspace.com/samiyambeats

Samiyam, Ann Arbor’s latest prodigal son and lover of sprinkles on doughnuts, takes the legacy of all Detroit’s talented musical sons and daughters and makes Hip Hop beats filled with snippets of Soul, Funk, 70’s Italian horror flick soundtracks, Nintendo bonus level music, and 90’s Hip Hop. Somehow, with this much content, the beats still manage to sound gloriously minimal and disjointed. Fans like Benji B, Andrew Meza and XLR8R have been eagerly snapping up his tracks, as Sam freeze frames Electro energy and spits it back out as twisted future Jazz. DABRYE is a fan, DAEDELUS describes him as “a thrilling sound to break the sameness,” and FLYING LOTUS is his brother in arms when they collaborate on the project FLYamSAM.

SPLATINUM Live (Daly City Records)

SPLATINUM is the collaboration of Andrew Luck and Adam Houghton aka Dosadi. Their musical output spans genres but the common element of devastating low-end threads through every composition.

“every sound seems to be massaged extensively and genetically tweaked to maximize grimy bling-osity, coating the tracks in high-gloss soot” – Dave Segal, The Stranger

The two have been busy in the studio lending remixes to the likes of Sleepy Eyes of Death and Mochipet, and have release their first LP on Daly City label this past spring.

Their recorded output is matched by a hyperkinetic live performance that pushes the envelope of electronic improvisation and showmanship. Custom built software instruments are combined with a slew of midi controllers to produce an electronic performance that goes beyond the simple tweaking of knobs and triggering of clips. Combined with their flair for the dramatic and crowd interaction their shows pulse with enthusiasm and energy.

NORDIC SOUL (Seattle, Decibel, Broken Disco)

NORDIC SOUL (aka INCITE!) has long been enamored with artistic expression, the creation of music, and the technology that fuses it all together, much to the benefit and evolution of the world of electronica and the underground culture that surrounds it. His healthy obsession began at the age of eleven in Detroit with the gift of his first guitar, got a kick in the ass with the purchase of a keyboard and drum machine during his teenage years, and continues to the present as the king of Seattle techno exists as the founder and director of the Decibel Festival. Known to his friends as Sean Horton, this DJ, producer, performer, and programmer brought a distinct and dirty Detroit flavor with him to Seattle in the mid-90’s and the musical zeitgeist of the city has been forever transformed by his presence.

Nordic Soul has deeply impacted the electronic community not only through his work for the annual Decibel Festival but also by slaying Seattle dance floors year-round. His emotionally charged sets are infused with live instrumentation and ripe with the mélange of organic and synthesized tones, all riding on top of heavy bass lines. The resulting music is a living, hybrid creature with a rich sense of soul that delights in its own existence. A lover of many musical styles, Nordic Soul’s interest and roots in hip hop, IDM, and dub contribute to his current musical palette that straight drips techno into the mouths of the waiting audience, thirsty for the unrelenting madness and unabated aural penetration that is electronic music.

Since Nordic Soul’s inception in 2003 he’s shared the stage with a diverse cross section of international talent, including Modeselektor, Bassnectar, Trentemoller, Simian Mobile Disco, Green Velvet, Moby, Derrick May, Boys Noize, Moderat, Gui Boratto, Monolake, Thomas Fehlmann, Apparat, Kraak & Smaak, Matthew Dear, John Tejada, Funkstroung, Nosaj Thing, Tipper and Four Tet to name a few.
