Last year's afterhours sets by Move D, Martyn, Bruno Pronsato, Holger Zilske and Voodeux where continually sited as highlights by Decibel Festival regulars. Not only was Detroit Techno the first established underground electronic dance movement to come out of the US, but it has remained one of the most influential. In 1985, Juan Atkins (aka Model 500 and Cybotron) founded the Metroplex label. The first release on the label, No UFOs as Model 500, became the defining anthem of Detroit Techno. 25 years later, Detroit Techno artists are still packing out clubs, headlining festivals, inspiring producers and catapulting DJs into stardom across the globe. For this showcase, Decibel has assembled three important figures in the Detroit Techno movement. Founded in London in 2003, Hotflush Recordings quickly became synonymous with the sound that came to be known as dubstep. A UK underground movement that evolved from UK garage and draws influences from dub, breaks, reggae, grime, 2-step; dubstep took time to attract attention, but finally emerged from obscurity in 2006 and has since remorselessly expanded across the globe. Few labels have contributed more, not only to the inception of, but more importantly, to the intregrity of dubstep by keeping it underground and avoiding trends.
