For the last year Dropping Gems has busied itself by putting out releases and serving as a DIY conduit between the Northwest and producers around the country. Based solely on the collective’s dedication to forward-thinking music, they have made it a priority to ferry talented electronic musicians onto bills in Portland and Seattle. For their premiere Decibel Festival showcase they’ve chosen to bring up Los Angeles-based Non Projects founder Anenon and label mate Asura. Both composers command a mastery of acoustic musicianship and sound collage, and take their audiences on ambitious journeys through rhythm and experimentation. They will be joined by three members of the Dropping Gems roster: Citymouth, Ghost Feet and DJAO, representing Portland, Olympia and Seattle respectively. All three share a common affinity for field recordings, ambient noise, deep bass, and kicks and snares, as well as deeply moving live performances. The entire showcase will be accompanied by visuals from Portland’s A/V wizard Timeboy, a recent addition to the Dropping Gems family. The pairing of both crews promises to shine a light on the extensive cross-pollination that’s taking place between electronic musicians up and down the West Coast and beyond.
