Alfred Darlington (born Alfred Weisberg-Roberts) is an experimental music producer based out of Los Angeles, California. He is most known for  his work as Daedelus and is also part of the groups Adventure Time and The Long Lost. He has been signed to Ninja Tune for a few years, their relationship reaching it’s full expression in 2008 with his critically acclaimed full album for the label, “Love To Make Music To.” Daedelus has also released material with a number of of other labels, including: Plug Research, Mush, Hefty, Tigerbeat 6, Laboratory Instinct, and Eastern Developments. He is also a founding DJ at the internet radio station Dublab.

Daedelus has refined a style that has no imitators. Contrasting IDM styled cut-ups with childlike arrangements from the 30s and 40s, he has created a sound that is entirely new. His productions find the hidden common denominator between modern electronics and sampled music from days gone by. Recording out of Santa Monica, Daedelus also incorporates hip-hop into his mix, with guest spots from Busdriver, MF Doom, TTC, Mike Ladd, Absract Rude, Madlib, and High Priest (Anti-Pop Consortium). Daedelus pioneered using the Monome in conjunction with Max/MSP for live performances.  His live show, which utilizes a custom-built sample trigger device and software package, has amazed audiences across the US, Europe, and Japan and secured his reputation as one of the most exciting producers in electronic music.

While his reputation has grown internationally, his place in the LA scene has also solidified. The musician that many of the hottest names in the city turn to for everything from bass clarinet licks to advice on obscure electronics, Daedelus has worked extensively with Taz from Sa-Ra, the pair of them opening for the likes of DJ Assault, Justice and Two Live Crew as well as appearing in Erykah Badu’s most recent video.

As for “Love To Make Music To,” Daedelus says that this album is “the imaginary memory of a time that never was! It’s my drug/love record, harking back to that time in the YMCA in London, when I first heard rave…”
