This closing night audio/visual event will take place at the glamorous Triple Door dinner theater, which is widely considered to be the best place to experience music in Seattle. This early evening program will feature live performances from three artists, deftly surfing the line between experimental pop and contemporary electronic music.
Headlining the Bit Pop showcase is Los Angeles-based Dntel aka Jimmy Tamberello, who’s solo work (James Figurine and Dntel) and music production as half of The Postal Service have made him one of the most successful electronic music producers in the US. Postal Service’s 2003 album Give Up is Sub Pop’s second best-selling album of all time. Through Dntel, Jimmy explores experimental and ambient production techniques, which he seamlessly blends with pop vocals and instrumentation. Dntel will be performing with a vocalist.
Co-headling is Au Revoir Simone front woman Erika Spring. Setting out on her own, she has taken elements of her band’s sound and spun them into her own brand of bittersweet sun-bleached pop. Breathing her vocals over mesmerizing keyboard phrases, she produces an effect that approaches the supernatural, with tough, stern beats lending gravity to the otherwise hazy, delirious songs. Erica will be performing as a trio.
Opening the Bit Pop showcase, Decibel is proud to be hosting the world premier of the super duo Orcas, which features Kranky singer/songwriter Benoit Pioulard and Ghostly International shoe-gazer The Sight Below. Orcas will also be performing as a trio with drummer and pianist Kelly Wyse. Lissom (San Francisco) and KillingFrenzy (Seattle) will be conducting live visuals as part of this audio/visual showcase.
In collaboration with the Musicquarium and The Triple Door, DJ Shani (KEXP 90.3) will be spinning choice selections of electro pop, shoegaze and electronica night long in the Musicquarium Lounge (free admission).
