Born in the obtuse shadow of the Tacoma Dome, Barry Penland aka PIXELFLIP, survived suburban childhood in Washington State with pen and sketchbook in hand. In 2001 he began mixing and manipulating digital imagery at ‘Passion’ parties for Scott Audio and ClubProductions.ca in Vancouver B.C. while studying multimedia development at the Vancouver Film School. Upon returning to Seattle in 2003 he continued his progression mixing and mashing live and pre-generated video content for the local talents of Jay Mason, Fortune Kiki, Jacob London, and the SunTzu Sound crew. Barry’s evolving style is rooted in abstraction, but takes cues from the energy of the people and the party for ultimate artistic direction.
